Hi! My name is Steve Fisk, owner of CostaRicaBudgetProperties.com. I first visited Costa Rica when I was backpacking Mexico and Central America. I passed through Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua, and then Costa Rica. I first landed in Dominical - but didn't like it so much. I did some research on Uvita, a tiny village on the Pacific coast and south of Dominical. When I got to Uvita and stopped by the real estate office, they took me to see a small lot in the center of town. This is what I wanted - there was no house, just a plain lot. I thought about it for three days - then decided to buy. I wrote a check and left for a time. I headed back to the States to take care of my dad who was suffering from cancer. I took care of his restaurant in Three Rivers, CA until he passed away a year later. After that I sold my mountain cabins in California and moved to Costa Rica. I built a house on the lot and started building the Tucan Hotel. The hotel/hostel started with 4 rooms, which eventually grew to 10 rooms, a bar, restaurant, pool table and enough hammocks to sleep an army! The hotel was a success. After the third year it had gotten to be too much work and stress for one person to manage. I advertised the hotel for sale in November, 2006 and sold in about two months. Some guests at the time asked me: Why do the real estate offices only list expensive properties? There must be some cheaper lots here in Uvita, and other parts of Costa Rica? Another gal staying at the hotel wanted to list her Uvita properties, but the real estate offices told her they are no longer taking listings! After hearing this I thought - I can do better, let's give this a try. I contacted a friend in Mexico, Nathan Phillips, to do the web site. Time will tell what happens! I'll be moving to Rivas, about an hour and a half from Uvita, to a nice quiet property that I got for a great price.
